CAMBYSES MAKETH WAR UPON THE NATIONS ROUND ABOUT, IS STRICKEN WITH MADNESS, AND SO DIETH
libraries are such an important space
not only for free information, but especially for at risk populations and homeless populations
they offer free or very cheap internet access (which allows for finding resoucres, job applications, etc), free access to information, bathrooms, often places have refreshments for relatively cheap as well, etc. etc.
wanting to make public libraries obsolete is classist and just an incorrect viewpoint tbh
So, I think my dream job would be working for a state or district library and assisting #rural / small #libraries with open source software. Has anyone heard of a job like that? (Or have any idea how to create it for myself?) Thanks.
Looking for names/reccs, please Boost. If you were at an event re #labor in libraries, archives, museums (LAM), who would you want to keynote?
(note: keynoters may connect us other communities, remind us of related work, etc. may not be LAM at all. may be scholars, activists, workers. LAM reccs are also appropriate)
I really dig how cosier social sites highlight how much we all have in common!
Lots of us appreciate the reminders to take care of ourselves in simple ways. We genuinely enjoy seeing others happy. We like learning things more from people who are excited about them.
So... share that self-care tip that's rocking your world. Write about the good day you had, even if you worry others might have had a bad one. Share that thing you love.
And share the bad, too, because you're not alone.
just finished organizing books to be copy cataloged on the shelf. this must be what self-efficacy feels like. ๐ช #cataloging #librarylife
Got an extension on paper that was due Friday til Tuesday morning. I know I need to be working on it NOW and tomorrow to get things done, but looks like I spent all my spoons on dance rehearsal and grocery shopping. Maybe a nap will help.
Has anyone in our professions written about how libraries are intensely consortial/cooperative enterprises when we talk about cross-institutional work, but it contrasts with how deeply hierarchical most are governed internally? Who should I be reading on this?

instead of replacing your password, just hurl your computer into the sun, and every computer that has ever handled it. together we can implement strong, horizontal security standards by destroying everything.
We, you and I, have a chance to fix this. We, you and I, can rebuild and repair.
We can:
- Make user friendly (not user hostile) devices and software
- Write documentation
- Refuse to buy tech that *we* can render safe to use, but that the average user can't
- Support people that do things correctly financially whenever possible.
