I got a couple Amazon gift certificates for Christmas - does anyone have some good book recommendations? I feel like Mastodon has been the best place for finding book ideas. (I've read a lot of romance the last few months, and I need a change of pace - maybe something with a little bigger scope? Whether it's fiction or nonfiction.)

TFW you watch the Lost Boys and can related to Diane West.

I accepted a new job/put in leave at an old job last night and it's surreal. New job is working with instructional technology at a large university - which I did, and loved, in grad school. Lots of feelings. I think new job will be a better fit (and pretty much better everything) but I'm coming back to old job and desereved awkwardness after break for three weeks and that's feeling more real.

I'm waiting for a webinar on a failed university library textbook program, and I'm kind of excited. I feel like I got to do a lot of "Wow that went wrong, but boy I learned from it" in teaching and not so much in libraryland and I'm missing it.

Just listened to the latest episode of Smart Podcast, Trashy Books, and I really want to live in the same universe as a dragon book by Beverley Jenkins. smartbitchestrashybooks.com/po

We have two bios of Frank Herbert, a sequel to Dune, but no Dune.

Trash Classical has dug out the Christmas music!

I'm looking at resources I compiled for another school for OER to replace first year writing textbook, and it's interesting how differently writing resources approach research as opposed to library ones.

Today's project: finding resources other schools use to teach first year research skills for our potential changes in library curriculum.

It's occurring to me that the last time (the last few times) I was teaching the last day before Thanksgiving break, I made the students listen to Alice's Restaurant, and I'm in no position to do that anymore. That's reason #87 it's probably good I got out of secondary education.

I just finished my last instruction session for the semester, and I'm certain that will feel good later, but right now it's just weird.
